Haw Wood Farm is the perfect place for star gazers to gather and enjoy a relaxed social event on a site with Dark Sky accreditation.

The skies at Haw Wood Farm are some of the darkest that England has to offer.

Haw Wood Farm has been named a ‘Dark Sky Discovery Site’ due to its unusual lack of light pollution.

Very few areas of the UK have this award which makes us the perfect place to combine a weekend break with some top quality star gazing.

Every effort is made to make the event as enjoyable and astronomer-friendly as possible and so, lighting on site is kept to an absolute minimum to allow us all to enjoy the dark skies at their very best.

Star Parties at Haw Wood Farm

The reason for Star Parties is for like-minded people to get together, socialise, share knowledge and enjoy the night sky from a dark, hopefully cloud free site.

Haw Wood Farm holds two Astronomy Events per year. One in the Spring and one in the Autumn when the sky is dark enough for observing but the weather is not too cold!

These events are well attended by astronomers from all over the country.

Everyone is welcome

We welcome both visual astronomers and imagers but we aim to keep the two in different areas of the site to avoid any issues with light pollution from cameras and computer screens,

We have naked eye visibility 5.73, averted 5.99 and a best SQM reading of 21.75.

Haw Wood Farm is a wonderfully dark site and as the Zodiacal light has been observed from here, it’s important we preserve this rare commodity in this day and age.

What's On during the event

During astronomy events at Haw Wood Farm, you have the option of coming to our onsite cafe for breakfast in the mornings, Fish and Chips on the Friday and Pizza on the Saturday.

We are also open for shopping essentials and treats as well as cakes and Hot and Cold drinks.

We all know that the sky is not always clear, and on those cloudy nights, there is time to gather around a fire pit and enjoy the company of fellow astronomers and friends.
